Guitarist Paul Langlois joined in 1986 when saxophonist David Manning left the band. The Hip's modest beginnings can be traced back to 1984 in Kingston, where Downie co-founded the band with four high-school friends, including guitarist Rob Baker, bassist Gord Sinclair and drummer Johnny Fay. ![]() The Tragically Hip's last release, "Man Machine Poem," won the Juno for rock album of the year and the band also took home the group of the year prize, which was its third time winning the award among 11 nominations. "First Nations have many, many stories like this one," he said in reference to Wenjack's experience being separated from his family and put in a residential school. While Downie didn't attend the Juno festivities, he appeared in a pre-recorded acceptance speech during the telecast. "Secret Path'' won three Juno Awards in April, best adult alternative album, songwriter of the year for Downie, and best recording package of the year for its presentation with a graphic novel. (But) we're going to get it fixed and we got the guy to do it, to start, to help."Ībout two months later, Downie released the multimedia solo project "Secret Path," which recounted the life of 12-year-old Chanie Wenjack, who died in 1966 after running away from a residential school in northern Ontario. It's maybe worse than it's ever been, so it's not on the improve. "He cares about the people way up North, that we were trained our entire lives to ignore, trained our entire lives to hear not a word of what's going on up there. "We're in good hands, folks, real good hands," Downie said in reference to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He used the national platform to call for more attention to the inequities faced by Indigenous Peoples, particularly in the North. "Thank you, people, for keeping me pushing and keeping me pushing," he said from the stage, which prompted a "Gordie!" chant from the audience. Despite conflicting with its coverage of the Summer Games in Rio, the CBC broadcast the last show of the tour live, in the Hip's hometown of Kingston, Ont., and thousands of fans also attended public viewing parties across the country to experience the band's swan song.Īn impassioned Downie led the group through a nearly three-hour set and acknowledged the country's enthusiastic support. Interest was off the charts and tickets sold out nearly immediately. And he used the spotlight to focus more attention on the issues facing Indigenous communities in Canada. ![]() In the aftermath of the shocking May 2016 announcement that Downie had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer the band said it would mount a tour, which many assumed would be the Hip's last. ![]() So my function in anything I do is to help bring people closer in." That stuff doesn't interest me and I don't even know if I could write that if I tried because I don't really feel it. "Nor have I written any pro-Canada lyrics, any kind of jingoistic, nationalistic cant. "I haven't written too many political lyrics," he said in an interview with The Canadian Press in 2014. While the Hip was frequently described as quintessentially Canadian, Downie had dismissed the suggestion that he set out to celebrate his homeland in song. Downie, one of Canada's most revered singer-songwriters, penned a steady stream of 1990s rock radio staples including "New Orleans Is Sinking," "Blow at High Dough," "Courage (For Hugh MacLennan)," "Ahead By a Century" and "Bobcaygeon." While Hip albums released in the 2000s didn't produce nearly as many hits, the band hung on to its unofficial status as Canada's favourite rock band. On Linux, if the vlc executable is on your path, it looks like: The start of the command line is the VLC invocation. This section gives examples of how to extract audio using VLC's command line invocation. To do that, you will need to use the VLC command line. It doesn't let you extract a single Chapter at a time. Note that VLC's GUI lets you specify the Title and Chapter from which it will start, but VLC will continue extracting until the end of the Title. Double-click on the DVD entry in the playlist. The DVD now appears as an entry in the playlist, e.g. Click the Play button at the bottom of the dialog. For example, it might be "F:\ - Wedding Movie". From the "Disc device" menu, select the menu entry corresponding to the computer's DVD reader. In the Disc tab's "Disk Selection" section, select the "DVD" radio button. Put the DVD into the computer's DVD reader. Here is how (as of Windows version 1.1.11): The VLC GUI provides a somewhat clumsy but workable way to explore the structure of a DVD or corresponding video file. You may want to extract a single audio file with the content of all of Title 3, or you may want a separate audio output file for each Chapter. In a case like this, you probably want only the audio content from Title 3, not from the other Titles. The main content in Title 3 may be divided into dozens of chapters, like the tracks in a CD. For instance, a DVD may have a menu in Title 1, an advertisement in Title 2, the main content in Title 3, and a trailer in Title 3. Is the source a DVD, or other container with internal structure, such as multiple "Titles", and multiple "Chapters" in each Title? If so, then you need to identify which Title and Chapters include the audio content you want, and which are irrelevant. Where VLC really shines is for sources which combine video and audio content. For instance, the FLAC tools include a command-line utility which can convert WAV files into FLAC files with excellent speed and reliability. Be aware that, while VLC has certain facility for this task, other tools may be even more powerful, faster, or more reliable for the task. Is the source an audio-only file? If so, then this operation is a simple transcoding of audio content from one format to another. You will open this source from VLC using the same GUI operations or command-line options as you would for any other VLC usage. We’ve since made the following change: Set-DhcpServerAuditLog -MaxMBFileSize 4096 I checked the directory size of “%windir%\system32\dhcp” on both servers and they were very close to 250MB. Not a maximum size per individual audit log. This leads me to believe the PowerShell documentation is incorrect and “-MaxMBFileSize” specifies the maximum size of all audit logs added together. The article also specifically references the registry key the PowerShell command changes. I’ve bolded and italicized the relevant line. A minimum size requirement (in megabytes) for server disk space that is used during disk checking to determine if sufficient space exists for the server to continue audit logging. An interval for disk checking that is used to determine how many times the DHCP server writes audit log events to the log file before checking for available disk space on the server.A maximum size restriction (in megabytes) for the total amount of disk space available for all audit log files created and stored by the DHCP service.DHCP audit logs are located by default at %windir%\System32\Dhcp. The file path in which the DHCP server stores audit log files.I have no idea how I found it but after some digging I found this article for Server 2008 (we’re using 2012R2): (v=ws.10)ĭynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) servers include several logging features and server parameters that provide enhanced auditing capabilities. It turns out this PowerShell command simply changes the registry value for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCPServer\Parameters\DhcpLogFilesMaxSize which you can just do manually if you’d prefer. Per the above link it states “-MaxMBFileSize Specifies the maximum size of the audit log, in megabytes (MB).” We used this PowerShell to make the change a long while ago and restarted the DHCP service: Set-DhcpServerAuditLog -MaxMBFileSize 250 The thing that had us scratching our heads is we’ve had this problem before and we had re-configured DHCP on these servers to allow the log files to grow to 250MB but things had stopped at 36MB. Stopping DHCP on DHCP1, renaming the audit log and then starting DHCP on DHCP1 again appeared to resolve the issue. The log on DHCP2 was not full (yet, only 34MB in size). We dug into the DHCP servers and found the DHCP audit log on DHCP1 was full (36MB in size). By the time a technician got to the PC to check it the issue was resolved magically. We started getting reports of random devices on the network not being able to connect or login to the domain. We have DHCP audit logging enabled.ĭHCP1 handles 0-127 and DHCP2 handles 128-254 (we mostly use /24’s right now).
